Weingut Karthauserhof Eitelsbacher Karthauserhofberg Riesling GG 2018 750ml

The grapes for Karthauserhof’s Grosses Gewachs come from the Kronenberg plot within their monopole grand cru site, Karthauserhofberg. The south by southwest facing site covers almost 20 hectares with a slope of up to 55%. High iron concentration of the pink-copper Devonian slate makes this the perfect location for riesling. Vine age here is roughly 80 years. Grapes are all hand harvested, crushed and then pressed with natural fermentation taking place in old oak barrels and stainless steel. The wine ages on gross lees for a year before racking. It spends an additional year aging before bottling. The wine shows a ripe and aromatic nose, with pineapple, almond, pear, mirabelle, and some creamy elements with honeyed yellow fruits. The palate is fresh and juicy but persistent with a citrus and mineral-driven finish.
