The great Montrachet producer also makes stellar Mâcon from biodynamic estate vineyards at 200 meters above sea level. The Macon-Uchizy from Les Héritiers du Comte Lafon hails from a parcel of thirty-plus year-old vines in the 1.8 hectare lieu dit of Maranches in the village of Uchizy. The soils here are clay and iron over the mother rock of limestone. The wine is aged in used casks for twelve months, prior to racking to stainless steel tank for six more months of elevage prior to bottling.
The Lafon family established this important domaine in the village of Milly-Lamartine in 1999, and it now amounts to over 25 hectares, all farmed biodynamically. Vinification is mostly in ex Meursault barrels, foudres and demi-muids, though the domaine's Pouilly-Fuissé ferments in used 225-liter barrels, with élevage typically completed with a few months on the lees in stainless steel.
