This historic estate, now under the hand of cellarmasters Dominik Sona and Franzi Schmitt, is undoubtedly one of the top estates in the Pfalz. Known for their broad, rich and minerally rieslings, pinot blancs and chardonnays sourced from the two top locations in Kallstadt—-the Steinacker and Saumagen vineyards—-these are distinctive and profound wines. The wines are fermented on their own yeasts, mostly in large (1200 liter) neutral stück casks and aged in large old oak barrels when quantities permit and smaller barrels for small production cuvées. These are old style wines from an estate making trocken wines before it was trendy - the wines age well and are really best after a few years.
The Kallstadter is their village level dry Kab, mostly from Steinacker and Annaberg, a touch softer and friendlier than thair single vineyard.
