Considered one of the top 1er Crus in Pommard. 1 ha split between two plots 2- upper (20 yrs) and lower (50 yrs). Soil is very rocky red soil due to high iron oxide content with limestone deposits close to the surface of the steep slope (320 m). 100% de-stemmed, native yeast aged in barrel (25% new).
93 Points, Neal Martin, Vinous: "The 2018 Pommard Les Rugiens 1er Cru has an expressive and well-defined bouquet with lifted floral scents, touches of chalk infusing the mixture of red/black fruit, slightly irony with time. The palate is medium-bodied with a structured entry. Quite strict and linear, this is your archetypal Pommard with an almost briny finish. Excellent" 10/20
Burghound Notes
91-94 Points, Allen Meadows, Burghound: "A more subtle but not invisible note of menthol is present on the cooler and admirably pure aromas of both red and dark pinot fruit that reflect a panoply of spice and floral nuances. The tautly muscular, robust and well-detailed larger-scaled flavors possess a firm mineral streak that adds a sense of lift to the more structured and beautifully long finale. This is impressive and should also amply repay extended keeping." 04/20 Issue #78
