Nicolas Jacob

We have a very small allocation of one of our most allocated Jura producers available right now.  Nicolas Jacob.  These wines are rarely seen outside of France, and certainly unicorns here in the states. We are one of the only shops in the US to get these wines.

An extremely rare drop of young Jura Superstar Nicolas Jacob is coming.  Nicolas, born and raised in the Jura, studied and mentored under Domaine Macle and Francois Ganevat, where he became Francois lead winemaker. He then, in a stroke of luck, purchased a tiny 2 acre parcel of vines in the hallowed terroir or L'Etoile. He later was able to purchase a small winery along with another 5 hectares in the village of Cesancey, where he makes his wines in the cellar under his home and has converted all of his vines to organic and biodynamic principles . Nicolas has, in just his 4th vintage release, made a name for himself as one of the rising stars of the region. His attention to detail, vinifying all of his small plots separately, before toiling over final blends to make his wines complete. He has become a master in Elevage.

Today we have just 2 wines to offer, a VDF Riesling made from purchased fruit in Alsace, and a Jura Poulsard made from Nicolas' own small .6 hectare parcel of Poulsard vines. For those that have not been following disastrous vintages in the Jura in recent years—2021 was exceptionally brutal in terms of weather damage across the region. Most producers, Jacob included, lost a solid 80-95% of their fruit due to late frosts and hail. As a result, Nicolas chose in this year to purchase small lots of fruit from a few organic viticultors with whom he is friends (in Alsace and the Savoie), in order to produce some new négociant cuvées for the year. These vin de France wines (the Riesling) may not be repeated again at the domaine, depending on what happens in vintages to come, so they represent an interesting look at Jacob’s winemaking and hand when applied to atypical varieties and differing northern French terroir.

These are a rare site that I know our Jura & natural wine lovers out there will appreciate.  Just 6 bottles of each, first come first served, so jump on them if you want them.

Wines arrive January 22nd.  Shipping and store pickup available.  We hold for cold weather free of charge.
