Fabien Jouves

Throw out the window whatever you think of about Malbec right now.

Fabien hails from a small area called Occitaniee, just outside the village of Cahors, growing around 21 hectares of vines that include the regions flagship grapes as well as smatterings of many local varieties.  His family has a long history of farming grapes, spanning generations, and since 2006 he has farmed his land biodynamically since.

His style is, in one word, delicious.  Fresh, fruit forward wines of all colors--rose, orange, white, red.

Today, we're offering his red,  "Haut Cot(e) de Fruit", aptly named after the pinots of the Burgundy appellation to the north.  This "Cot" (the local name for Malbec in the Cahors region), is the juiciest and most joyful bottle of Malbec you'll ever have.  Upon pouring it looks of a deeb garnet red with glowing pink rim, the nose is flinty and mineral, almost as if you struck a hammer against a peice of stone, and then  it envelopes your senses in a cloak of fresh dark raspberry fruit.

Truly one of the most delicious reds we have come across recently.

I would be wrong to also not include the new vintages of our other past favorites from Jouves:

The "A Table" Rosé. This is another wonderfully delicious wine. The Rosé (or light red if you'd prefer), is another absolutely picture perfect wine for this style.  I REALLY enjoy rosé with a little more skin contact, its a perfect take on the style, and turns those fruit notes from light watermelon and strawberry into ripe raspberry and cherry, without the freshness or drinkability suffering.  This wine will rule your summer grilling season.  Pair it with grilled salmon, grilled veggies, salads, burgers- you name it, or just pull it from the cooler on the next patio hang..  Just because its darker doesn't mean it is less refreshing-- this is a VIBRANT, GLOWING wine that makes you feel like you're drinking liquid red jolly ranchers.

The orange, "Skin-Contact" is a blend of Gros Manseng, Ugni Blanc, Muscat d’Alexandrie, offered up notes of straight mandarin orange, pink grapefruit, and exotic flowers.  This is exactly as you want an orange wine to be--just ripping with amazing aromas that border the exotic.  I could drink this all day long, if i could stop smelling it.  Bursting with juicy fruit, it's just fantastic. A mandarin bomb.
