Benjamin Leroux
Benjamin Leroux was born in 1975 in Beaune, not to a family of winemakers, like so many in Burgundy, yet he decided in his teens that wine was what he wanted to do. He studied enology from the young age of 15, then kicked off his embarrassingly stellar career at Cos d'Estournel in Bordeaux, Domaine Drouhin in Oregon, Louis Jadot in Beaune, and Comte Armand in Pommard, where he was promoted to technical director and manager at the young age of 24. In 2007 at the age of 32, he founded Domaine Benjamin Leroux. The writing was on the wall for Ben, and the rest is history. His style is polished, elegant, and vibrant. Despite rapidly trending toward ‘benchmark’ status amongst people who know what’s up, his wines still offer phenomenal value for the price.
Today we have some 2022s from Leroux, aloing with a little 2018. The 2022s are great wines. William Kelley writes, 'the 2022 vintage is proof that Burgundy hasn’t lost its capacity to surprise. How could the hottest, driest vintage since 1947 deliver wines so succulent, suave and charming?'
The whites offer freshness, density and the site transparency that we love from top Burgundy. While the red Burgundies purr with succulent textures, elegant tannins and appetizing freshness. And although 2022 was a ripe year, the finesse and balance are extraordinary across the range.
