0.68 hectares in two plots, one with 50 year old vines, the other with 20 year, vinified together. 280 m altitude. 10% de-stemmed and aged in barrel (20% new).
This is aromatically cool, airy and elegant though the ripe red and dark currant aromas are less floral-suffused. The mouthfeel of the medium-bodied flavors manages to be both powerful and refined with outstanding persistence to the balanced if decidedly compact, serious and built-to-age finale. Excellent potential.

The 2022 Volnay Les Santenots 1er Cru another vineyard suffering some degeneration includes 20% whole bunches and is matured in 10% new oak. The very floral bouquet offers wilted violets and incense infusing the mainly dark berry fruit a touch of loam emerging with time. The palate is medium-bodied with sappy red fruit fresh and tensile. There?s a touch of piquancy towards the finish conveying more energy than the Clos des Angles by comparison. Excellent. (Drink between 2026-2045)

Located in Les Santenots Dessous the vineyard is suffering from some 161/49 rootstock problems so the 2022 crop is just 7 barrels instead of a possible 18. Two new barrels and 20% whole bunches. A pleasing medium density colour with some strawberry notes in the rather charming bouquet. Excellent energy very polished fine long finish. Quite special.
