Vintage: The mild winter resulted in an early resumption of the vine cycle. The spring, was dry causing a rapid flowering. On June 28, 2014, a violent hail storm struck in the Côte de Beaune, destroying much of the crop. Summer turned to rain. Nevertheless, the grapes ripened with a good rhythm without suffering. At the beginning of September, the sun and heat set in. The grapes lost the juice stored during the heavy summer rains but the cycle of maturity continued perfectly until the harvest from 11 to 22 September, offering magnificent balance worthy of great vintages. Description: The "Clos Blanc" plot is located on the edge of the Grand Crus road at the entrance of Pommard, an extension of the "Grands Epenots". It takes its name from the pronounced presence of limestone and clay in the ground, giving it a white color. Following the phylloxera crisis, this area was the first of the village to be replanted. Vine & Terroir: Our plot of pinot noir planted in 1996, of 0.33 hectare, is located downhill and to the northeast of the village. Our vineyard rests on clay-limestone ferruginous soil. It is deep with a capacity to retain water, giving roundness to this wine. Vinification & Aging: The grape harvests are manual and we choose, when the vintage allows to conserve 25 to 30 percent of the whole vintage. Then, the fermentations occur spontaneously, thanks to the work of the natural, indigenous yeasts and take place in wooden vats for 20 to 25 days, under temperature control. Each year, the native yeasts, naturally present on the grapes, offer a different fermentation profile, which we leave to express in order to preserve the typicity of the vintage. We prefer a soft extraction by adjusting the number of pigeages and remontages according to the vintages and the vintages. Our pinot noirs are then raised for 12 months in oak barrels, 20% new, thereafter spending 6 months in vats before bottling. Our red wines are not fined or filtered. Tasting: On the nose the fruit is strong, it still rings in the sun, it breathes summer! The aromatic palette mixes the wild berries with the ripe grapes and slips towards sandalwood, musk. Everything announces a vigorous character. One expects it: the mouth breaks in width and length, the wine is strong and powerful, and its strength is sure: with its solid flesh and fruit forward, nothing scares him. We will marry this conqueror to noble dishes and why not game, or we will wait for him in the cellar, for here the youth will last for a long time.
