I have wanted to do a standalone email offer on this amazing winery, as it deserves one, and I still will, but this wine needs to be included today. From deep in Austria's Burgenland region and not imported into the US much before this, this tiny winery was started in 1959 and  is owned by the Velich family (who also branched off to start the famous MORIC winery). it is  located in a national park called the Seewinkel on Lake Neusiedl and is said to make one of the most sought after Chardonnay's outside of France that I have yet to taste. This is not the area of Gruner in Austria, but boasts the "other" grapes of the country--namely Welschriesling, Furmint, Neuberger.  This is 100% Welschriesling, an italian grape of origin that has made its home here, often made into dessert wines.  Not here, this is the perfect cold weather white wine, its not zippy and citrusy, its fuller, rounder, exotic, and ripe, with notes of spicy peach, pineapple, but with clear citrus notes of lemon and grapefruit to give this a balanced acidity.  This of this as Chenin Blanc from Vouvray meets Alsatian Gewurtztraminer, but without all the annoying overblown aromatics and low acidity of Gewurtz, just the body and spice. Its a wonderful wine.
