The 2021 Riesling Hattenheimer Pfaffenberg Monopol Grosses Gewächs is the first GG made at the estate. The site joined the portfolio in 2021. Planted in 1981, it grows on deeper calcareous soils. Gentle peach is laced with lemon on the pure nose. The palate replicates this but lends a lovely textural notion of yellow-pink peach skin to proceedings, together with citrus zestiness, resulting in a juicy flow. The finish is downright lip-smacking. Vivid, long, beautifully mouth-coating zestiness is at work here, adding salty, citric verve.
