Gustavo Martinez Koupin 2020 750ml

100% Carignan from 3 brothers who own a vineyard in Ninhue. Planted in 1969, it’s the oldest Carignan vineyard in Chile as far as he knows and until Gustavo came along they were selling the grapes as Pais. He asked them to start sorting the Carignan harvest from the Pais and Koüpin was born. Hand harvested, half the grapes go through carbonic maceration for 3 weeks and the other half are done pipeño style (destemming with use of the traditional zaranda and fermenting wines spontaneously with indigenous yeasts) like the rest, only difference being a longer time in neutral barrel, about 7-8 months to smoothen tannins. Bottled unfined, unfiltered, low sulfur addition at bottling. 1,350 bottles produced.
