Elio Sandri Barolo Riserva Perno 2019 750ml

In most vintages, Elio chooses to bottle a Barolo Riserva “Perno,” the fruit for which he selects
toward the end of the growing season based largely on the condition and appearance of the leaf
canopy. Fermented spontaneously in cement and aged in large Slavonian cask like the basic
Barolo “Perno,” the Riserva spends extra time in botti—in the case of the 2019, an extra 12
months, for a total of 56 months in wood. Firmer and more mineral-dominated than the basic
2019 “Perno,” with a prominent streak of iron, this 2019 Riserva offers similarly vibrant, taut
fruit with rugged but remarkably well-integrated tannins. A long drinking window lays in wait for those wise
enough to cellar it.
