From a younger parcel in the southeastern Sta. Rita Hills, Patterson Chardonnay is notably terse on the nose but voluble on the palate. This vintage is no exception. Zippy green tree fruits — namely Anjou pear and honeydew nectarine — fill a taut, chalk- and jasmine-scented frame. As Patterson does, the palate opens up, and persistent, salty minerality and rapier acidity are a vehicle for notes of lemon and fresh cream. This sheen lingers on through a textured finish.
