from 3 different parcels totaling .61 ha, one of which is in Puligny and the other two are in Chassagne; the vines are a mix of ages between 15 and 30+ years. Like the Bourgogne Côte d'Or, this is sufficiently reduced to need decanting if you're tempted to try a bottle young. On the palate though there is good freshness to the rich, full-bodied and very generously proportioned flavors which coat the palate with dry extract, indeed the palate impression is quite seductive, all wrapped in a refreshingly dry, clean and sneaky long finish. While qualitatively equal to the Bienvenues-Bâtard-Montrachet, the Bâtard is more powerful if less refined and a wine that should easily repay a decade of cellaring.
