Shortly after prohibition ended, Wathen Medley was producing bourbon, much of which was contracted out by larger houses. Wathen discovered that some barrels were superior to others due to their location in the warehouse. Wathen Medley cherry picked these barrels and bottled them for personal use, serving it to his guests in his home.
