Although Anne and Hervé took over the 7-hectare property in 1990, it is only in very recent years that the domaine has undergone a total transformation. Lately, the wines have been amongst the finest in the village as a series of brilliant reviews has attested. They have always had wonderfully sited old vines, but they now work organically from flowering onwards and yields have been significantly reduced. They follow the lunar calendar and, in some of their vineyards, plough by horse. With minimal intervention in the winery, a judicious usage of new oak and only one racking prior to bottling without fining or filtration, the Sigauts are quietly making some of the most well-defined, thoroughbred wines in Chambolle. hambolle-Musigny Village, 4 individual parcels of 40-year-old vines. 10% new oak. Chambolle-Musigny “Derrière le Four” 45-year-old vines in the heart of the village, with sand, clay and silt topsoils on the limestone bedrock. 20% new oak. Chambolle-Musigny “Les Bussières Vieilles Vignes”, planted in 1959 below 1er Cru Les Sentiers, on the Bonnes Mares side. 30% new oak for 1 year, then 6 months en masse. Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru Les Chatelots 45-year-old vines, next to 1er Cru Charmes. Very “calcaire”. Hardly any topsoil – the vines go straight into the mother-rock. 30% new oak barrels. Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru Les Fuées, 3 parcels of 30-40-year-old vines next to Bonnes Mares. 30% new oak. Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru Les Noirots, 45-year-old vines. 30% new oak. 20% whole bunches on heavier, argile soils, giving opulence and body. Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru Les Sentiers Vieilles Vignes, vines planted in 1947, just below Bonnes Mares. 30% new oak. Morey-St-Denis 1er Cru Les Charrières, 40-year-old vines just below Clos de la Roche. 20% new oak. Morey-St-Denis 1er Cru Les Millandes, 45-year-old vines just below Clos St. Denis. The site gives very small, concentrated grapes. 30% new oak.
